[baren is honestly probably trying to get to the other side, on his way back to yamate for a few days at least - but he'll pause when he's just about to figure out how to get to the other side without alerting wwx.
and that's around the same time that he'll notice futaba and.... well, normally he tries to make sure that either his siblings or chuuya gets to say the last goodbye to him, given how fussy they all get but. what kind of parent would he be if he didn't wander over to her?

[ goodness knows what futaba's doing at the river- probably on her way to harass wwx again if nothing else but... instead, mom's here. she can see the shape of her under the water, that warm tired smile she remembers so fondly smiling as she beckons her ever closer. everything else doesn't matter now because even a well-do fox like herself misses her parent the most. ]
because the thing is that the triplets haven't had their parents, not as far as baren can remember. but it never really mattered, because he had okuni and wwx. and they took care of him, and loved him more than anything. he never felt like he could've wanted for more.
but he knows that's not the case for anyone, certainly not his little fox that he's taken on as one of his own. so he rushes then, a little more urgently:]

[and only hopes he can reach her before she gets to the river]
